Why i want to become a medical doctor. part 3 Mar 13, 2010

I am ready to enter into the future with hope and courage, enthusiasm, energy and a drive unscathed by the present realities because of the tomorrow i see. I am ready to maximize my potentials, expand my horizons and begin to actualize my dreams. I am aware of the challenges i will have to face because of my decision to become a medical doctor, but i believe that challenges makes one discover things that were otherwise hidden about oneself. They make one break the boundaries set by society; opinions about oneself that have been formed over time, and make one out-perform the norm. Most people talk about the duration of the course and am aware of that. I have been trained never to be afraid of the space between my dreams and reality, if i can dream it, then i can make it happen. I enjoy challenges, especially those linked to my goals and passions. Challenges test one's ability to be patient in order to reach one's goal.

When the roll call is made and my identity declared, i am still a Gambian. My country need me and my passion demands nothing but the answer to my brothers needs. I hope am given a chance to become a medical doctor, and i believe that my country, The Gambia, and indeed the world will have yet another reason to rejoice.

why i want to become a medical doctor. part 2 Mar 13, 2010

Medical personnel are so badly needed that we have to, literally, "import" medical doctors from other parts of the world inorder to keep the nation from spiraling uncontrollably into a state of total medical mayhem !!! This ought not to be so. The quest for proper medical health care has driven the population to seek help from unprofessional, spiritual, ritualistic and completely uncertified sources that will ultimately pose more threat to the wellbeing of the nation at large than salvation. We do not have enough Gambian medical doctors who can reach out to the people, speak their language, feel their pains, understand their feeling and sufferings, and respond to their needs with first class, up-to-date medical attention where and when needed.

My desire is to see a nation free from diseases, a society that has the appropriate technology, well trained personnel, proper medical setup that can handle any situation at any time in a professional environment. i will also like to see female Gambian doctors conducting medical procedures with dexterity, accuracy, precision and skill that only quality education can offer. I want to be a pioneer of the medical revolution in The Gambia. Thats my goal, my drive and that's what am living for. These are the reasons why i, full of passion for the health and well being of the average Gambian and driven for change, have decided to study for a BSc. in medicine, It does not matter how long it takes, a journey of a thousand years always starts with a first step. This is my first step. I have realized that people with great accomplishments make things happen. I am determined to make my dream come true, prepare to pay the price, and unshaken in my conviction that medicine is the choice for me.

The pursuit for a quality education in Medicine cannot be over-emphasized when given the present state of  affairs in my country and so, as it has become part of my responsibility, as an indigene of this country, and indeed one with the health and well being of my people paramount on my mind, also being in line with my life long passion, i intend studying medicine in a university that will help me achieve this dream.
